Nipple Reconstruction
Nipple reconstruction is the restoration of the nipple and areolar complex that was lost during the treatment of breast cancer. When the nipple cannot be preserved during surgery, not only do we lose the nipple but the areola as well. These are very distinct structures that define a breast.
Nipple reconstruction can be done in different ways but it uses the skin from the breast or other parts of the body that lack color and texture. This is when the tattooing of the nipple areolar complex comes into the plan.

Nipple Tattoo
Nipple tattoos restore the areolar complex that was lost during the treatment of breast cancer. It adds color and depth to the skin inside and around the nipple so it would imitate the texture of a real nipple and areola.
3D tattoos add shadows specific to draw in a nipple-like structure surrounded by the pigment of the areola. When seen from the front, this seems like a 3D drawing of a nipple but it remains flat to touch.

Tamika Sanderson, MA LBA is our Licensed Body Artist that has a passion for the restoration of the nipple and areola. She has been in the Plastic Surgery industry for many years and her eye for aesthetics and color schemes have driven her to start doing nipple tattooing specific to breast reconstruction. She is compassionate towards our patients with the diagnosis of breast cancer and she puts the final touch to a very long reconstructive journey.
